Join us this winter at UNESCO site Magdalena Bay at our secluded Island Outpost. There we will take you out for two days of boat excursions to experience the gray whales as the migrate on their journey to the birthing lagoons in Magdalena Bay. Mothers and their calves freely approach our boats with never-ending curiosity about the humans on board.
Magdalena Bay is remote, so our trip lengths are offering from 3 to 8 days only because of travel time. Ideal group sizes are 4-8 people.
BONUS: Swim with whale sharks on our longer trips!
Both Sides of Magical Baja California Sur:
During winter, this nature enthusiast site is a place unlike any other; when it’s colder up north, we are perfectly situated to experience the best nature that the world has to offer: whales, pelagic fish, whale sharks, sea lions, dolphins, and more. Join us where the desert meets the sea!
We are uniquely located in La Ventana, right in the action. Enjoy meals prepared by the on-site restaurant.
Your first and final nights are at our traditional Mexican resort on the Sea of Cortez – or extend your stay and experience all the rustic Southern Baja has to offer.
Magdalena Bay, of the most secluded destinations for whale watching, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s also the site of one of the most robust gray whale breeding lagoons on Earth. It’s not uncommon to see mother whales and their calves – and cry tears of joy.
Because we want to make sure these trips are run smoothly and with the best experience possible for each guest, we limit our trips each winter. See what previous guests have to say!
This is such a unique special spot for all things ocean related! The staff and crew are so passionate about protecting the local nature while providing a unique experience!

As a boat captain myself, I was blown away by the professionalism of our panga captains. We safely approached each area and waited for the whales to come to us.
